Do ethanol fireplaces produce smoke or soot?

No. Bioethanol burns cleanly, producing mostly water vapour and carbon dioxide, with no smoke, soot or ash to clean up afterwards.

Does an ethanol fireplace smell while it's burning?

A well-maintained unit burning quality bioethanol fuel should have little to no odour. Any strong smell usually points to a lower-grade fuel or the flame not being fully extinguished properly.
