Can the Barcelona 750 be used for aquatic plants or as a fire pit base?

The polyethylene material is 100% water-tight, making it ideal for aquatic plants or small ponds. However, it is not heat-rated. It must not be used as a fire pit or to hold hot ash, as the high temperatures will melt or warp the polymer structure.

Is the planter heavy enough to prevent plants from blowing over?

While the planter itself is lightweight for easy delivery, once filled with 75cm worth of potting mix and water, it becomes extremely heavy and stable. This wide, shallow base is one of the most wind-resistant shapes for exposed balconies.

Does the flat base require a saucer for indoor use?

Yes. If you have drilled drainage holes for plant health, you will need a saucer to protect your flooring. If the planter is left undrilled for a water feature, no saucer is required as the base is a solid, seamless piece.

Will the polyethylene crack if the water inside freezes?

No. Unlike ceramic or concrete which are rigid and porous, polyethylene is slightly flexible. It can expand and contract to accommodate the pressure of freezing water or soil, making it a "frost-proof" solution for colder Southern Hemisphere regions.
