Warranty

It is not likely. But if it happens.

It is not likely. But if the furniture you ordered does not arrive in good order, or something goes wrong with it that should not have, call us on 0800 468 836 and we will sort it.

At all times, your rights under the Consumer Guarantees Act apply. The below sits on top of those.

Two year warranty

Furniture made by Design Concepts carries our limited two-year warranty against defects in material and workmanship. That covers the materials across our outdoor range, including lightweight concrete, 316 stainless steel, A-Grade teak and powder-coated aluminium.

The warranty applies to domestic use, to the original purchaser with proof of purchase, and to furniture bought in our store or on our website. It is not transferable.

Five year fabric warranty

Our upholstery and shade fabrics carry a five-year limited warranty. It covers fabric that becomes unserviceable through loss of colour or strength from normal use and exposure, including sunlight, mildew and atmospheric chemicals.

Fabric is not bulletproof. It still needs cleaning and looking after, and the care guide for your piece explains how.

Umbrellas

Umbrella frames and canopies carry their own warranty, depending on the model:

  • Aspen cantilever: 2 years residential
  • Malibu cantilever: 3 years residential
  • Eclipsum: 3 years residential, 2 years commercial
  • Icarus: 3 years residential, 2 years commercial
  • Paraflex: 2 years residential, 1 year commercial
  • Spectra: 3 years residential, 2 years commercial

Some brands fall under the manufacturer's own warranty conditions instead. The umbrella warranty is valid only when the umbrella is installed and used as set out in the instructions that come with it. It does not cover damage from wind or adverse weather, fair wear and tear, accidents or misuse.

A repair, hardware replacement or new canopy supplied under warranty is covered for the time left on the original warranty. It does not start a new warranty period. We supply the parts, but labour to fit them is not covered.

Putting the cover on the umbrella every day makes a real difference to how long it lasts.

Teak and natural materials

Teak is a natural material. Its colour and grain vary from piece to piece, and it weathers and ages outdoors. Checks, splits, cracks, mould spots, mildew, movement and colour change are all part of that natural weathering and are not covered by the warranty. Mould or discolouration can appear within the first month outside. It is not a defect, any more than it is on a hardwood deck. If you want to keep the honey-brown tone, teak needs basic maintenance.

Outdoor furniture fades in New Zealand conditions. Apart from the fabric warranty above, we do not guarantee colourfastness.

What counts as a defect

A defect is an imperfection that stops your furniture working as it should. Normal wear and tear is not a defect. It means the normal deterioration that comes from using the furniture, and it is not covered.

What is not covered

The warranty does not cover defects or damage caused by:

  • Improper assembly
  • Modifications after purchase
  • Intentional damage, accident, misuse, abuse or negligence
  • Normal wear and tear, including weathering and checking of timber
  • Weather-related conditions
  • Furniture covers
  • Fading, discolouring or silvering, other than as covered by the fabric warranty

It also does not apply to items damaged by you, or to sale items, seconds and items discounted by more than ten percent below the advertised price.

Repairs and replacements

If you find a defect in material or workmanship, we will repair or replace the defective components at no cost to you. Which of the two is our call. Where the repair is simple, we may send the replacement parts straight to you, at our expense, so you can fit them yourself.

Shipping costs for repairs or replacements under warranty are the purchaser's responsibility, although we may choose to cover them.

We are not liable for incidental or consequential damage resulting from using the product.
